The agreement accelerates the implementation of existing procurement contracts
Poland has secured $4 billion (€3.4 billion) under the US Foreign Military Financing (FMF) programme that it says will strengthen the country’s armed forces and NATO’s eastern flank.
The agreement, signed on Wednesday, marks Poland’s sixth FMF deal and brings total support through the programme to nearly $20 billion (€17.1 billion), according to Polish officials.
Under the FMF programme, the US provides government-backed credit guarantees to support the purchase of American defence equipment.
Polish Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz said the funding would accelerate the implementation of existing procurement contracts, including those for Apache attack helicopters, while strengthening the strategic partnership between Poland and the United States.
