South Park’s creators have mocked President Donald Trump’s recent attempts to rename various geographical locations by announcing that their show will be renamed South America.Over the weekend, Trump suggested renaming the state of New Mexico as New America. He has previously signed an executive order to change the name of Lake Ontario to Lake America, and another changing the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America.Those changes have been reflected in online maps created by companies including Apple and Google.In a statement to The Independent, South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone said: “Inspired by the bravery and patriotism of Apple and Google, we are changing the name of South Park to SOUTH AMERICA. This revenue helps to fund journalism across The Independent.Trump has complained about the TV awards in the past due to the fact that he never won an award for The Apprentice — the business competition series he hosted from 2004 to 2015.“The Emmys were horrendous…the absolute worst show,” Trump wrote on X in 2012, adding in another post: “The Emmys are all politics, that’s why, despite nominations, The Apprentice never won — even though it should have many times over.”In an interview with The New York Times last year, South Park co-creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker described why they decided to feature Trump so heavily in the last season.“It’s not that we got all political,” said Parker. “It’s that politics became pop culture.”Stone added that speaking out against the Trump administration had become “taboo.” He continued: “Trey and I are attracted to that like flies to honey.
