Donald Trump has unleashed on Iran, the Democrats and threatened to rename a US state in a rapid-fire Truth Social rampage on Sunday. The president fired off 34 posts in less than an hour. The posts included a photo of Mr Trump’s face superimposed over wrestler Hulk Hogan with a “MAGA” bandana photoshopped onto his head.Another showed Iran’s borders reshaped in an outline of the president’s head while others showed Trump claiming victory in the now six-month-long conflict and claiming the Strait of Hormuz as a US territory. He also shared memes showing purported economic gains made by his administration and shared a map showing New Mexico rebranded as “New America”.Other posts included the president walking alongside a futuristic army of robots, conducting warfare from outerspace, and trading stocks from the Oval Office. He also shared a meme of Iran’s oil-rich Kharg Island being blown up. There was also a post of what appeared to be the Titanic sinking and the word’s “Dumocrat Party” emblazoned it.It comes as Tehran threatened “faster, heavier and more painful” attacks against the US in retaliation for strikes on Iranian targets over the weekend.Iran’s top spy chief, Mohsen Rezaee, said Tehran would establish a “prohibited zone” in the Strait of Hormuz in the coming days, according to local media reports. The zone will start from the US Navy’s blockade line and include areas of the Persian Gulf. Any ships entering the new zone “will be placed on the sanctions list” of Iran, Mr Rezaee said.Top Iranian negotiator Mohammed Baqer Qalibaf said the era of proportionate responses had “come to an end”.“Any aggression against Iran’s interests and security will receive a faster, more intense and more painful response,” he warned. The menacing threat came as Tehran targeted American warships and the US attacked Iranian tankers over the past few days.Iran’s Revolutionary Guard said it targeted a US naval drone, three oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz, and US vessels, an aircraft carrier and a destroyer. The US said it destroyed three Iranian oil tankers on Saturday in response to attempted missile attacks on its navy. The latest round of clashes, which began with US raids last week, comes amid a deadlock in the six-month war. Iran has maintained its stranglehold on the strategic Strait of Hormuz as Washington continues pressing its counter-blockade of Iranian ports. In addition to the renewed military action, Washington is also seeking to choke Iran’s economy, announcing sanctions on entities with financial links to the Islamic republic in a bid to force it into submission.US Central Command (CENTCOM) said American warships had “successfully evaded” Iran’s attacks. In his speech, Mr Qalibaf said Iran must better manage imports to confront what he called the US campaign “seeking to paralyse the supply cycle and energy management”.On Sunday, local time, Revolutionary Guards spokesman Hossein Mohebi said Tehran was seeking to inflict economic damage on the US.“If America wants to inflict one dollar of economic damage on Iran, it inflicts tens of dollars of damage on itself,” he said.It comes as US President Donald Trump described the conflict, which has killed 18 US service members and left thousands of others dead, as “small potatoes”.“A lot of people don’t call it a war. I call it a military conflict because it’s small potatoes for us,” he said in a back-and-forth with reporters in the Oval Office on Friday.“It’s not a big thing. We did Venezuela and we did this. In Venezuela we lost nobody, in this we lost 18 people,” he added, referring to the daring capture of Venezuelan leader, Nicolas Maduro, in January. The tone-deaf comments come as President Trump was asked to respond to remarks by Vice President J.D. Vance.A day earlier, Mr Vance said the conflict had cooled despite a recent ratcheting up of strikes between the two countries.“I wouldn’t call it a war. Right now, there is no active shooting,” Mr Vance said, arguing that major combat operations only lasted six weeks.“I recognise there have been places where this has flared up,” he added.Read related topics:Donald Trump
