Hackers blow Sh31 bn Bitcoin fortune in four weeks of wild spending
A team of young hackers responsible for a massive Sh31 billion ($240 million) Bitcoin theft saw their sudden fortune vanish after going on a wild, month-long spending spree.
According to the Associated Press (AP), in August 2024, the group allegedly tricked a Washington D.C resident into handing over access to their digital wallet.
After concealing the stolen cryptocurrency through a series of online transfers, the young men spent the money on sports cars, private jet flights, personal bodyguards and rental mansions in Miami and the Hamptons.
One alleged leader, 22-year-old Malone Lam, spent more than Sh73.7 million ($569,000) in a single night at a Los Angeles nightclub.
