Belarusian opposition leader Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya warned that Russia could use Belarusian territory to escalate tensions and provoke NATO member states.
In an interview published Thursday by 15min.lt, Tsikhanouskaya said Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko remains willing to provide territory and infrastructure for potential Russian offensive or intimidation operations against the alliance.
Based in Warsaw, Tsikhanouskaya said she had received reports that new military infrastructure was being built in Belarus near the Ukrainian border as well as along the country’s borders with European Union member states.
“We must be very cautious – we see that the infrastructure for Oreshnik missiles is deployed in Belarus; they are threatening and blackmailing with nuclear weapons,” Tsikhanouskaya argued.
Russia has deployed its Oreshnik intermediate-range ballistic missile system in Belarus, which Moscow and Minsk have presented as part of efforts to strengthen their joint security.
