India on Wednesday strongly condemned recent Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia, particularly the targeting of civilian and economic infrastructure, calling such actions unacceptable and warning that they threaten regional stability and freedom of navigation in the Bab-el-Mandeb.Responding to media queries on the reported attacks in Saudi territory, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, "India condemned the attacks on Saudi sovereign territory, especially the targeting of civilian and economic facilities."Also Read: India condemns Houthi attack in Saudi as 'unacceptable', says strikes threaten navigational freedom in Bab-el-MandebJaiswal said the attacks "undermined regional security and stability and threatened freedom of navigation in the Bab-el-Mandeb," adding that such actions were unacceptable.India's remarks came a day after Saudi Arabia condemned a series of Houthi attacks on civilian and economic facilities in Abha, Jazan, Khamis Mushait and Najran. According to the Saudi foreign ministry, the attacks left 73 civilians, including women and children, injured.Riyadh also condemned continued attacks on commercial vessels in the Red Sea and what it described as persistent threats to international maritime navigation."The Kingdom reiterated its categorical rejection of the hostile approach and criminal conduct persistently pursued by this militia in threatening the security and stability of the brotherly Republic of Yemen and its Arab and Islamic surroundings, as well as its continued rejection of all peace efforts," the Saudi foreign ministry said in a statement posted on X.The ministry said Saudi Arabia reserved the right to take necessary measures to protect its territory, strategic assets, citizens and residents in accordance with international law.Also Read: Pakistan warns Houthi attack on Saudi Arabia could activate joint defence pact"The Kingdom warned against the consequences of the terrorist Houthi militia's continued targeting of innocent civilians and civilian facilities, and stressed the need for an immediate halt to all forms of escalation carried out by the militia, as well as its continued threats to the security of maritime navigation," the statement said.Saudi Arabia also called for stronger international action, including implementation of relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions, particularly Resolution 2216 and Resolution 2722.India's condemnation comes amid continuing concerns over security in the Red Sea and the Bab-el-Mandeb, a crucial maritime chokepoint linking the Red Sea with the Gulf of Aden and a key route for international trade and shipping.The MEA's remarks underline New Delhi's concern that attacks on civilian infrastructure and commercial shipping could further destabilise the region and disrupt freedom of navigation along vital international sea lanes.
