We learnt how to run them. What would it take to build and own them?
Think back to 2004 and 2005.
Nigerian banking was being torn up and rebuilt. Eighty-nine institutions became twenty-five. Banks merged, banks were bought, banks disappeared. And behind those transactions, groups of people were doing something that would matter for the next twenty years. They were assembling capital, negotiating combinations and creating the ownership structures of the banks that would emerge.
Where were the women?
Not the women working in the banks. They were there, and they were excellent. I mean the women in the capital-forming rooms. The women putting the blocs together.
