Former Republican strategist Rick Wilson cooked up a damning nickname for the first-ever GOP midterm convention taking place in Dallas this week, and warned it may prove a no-win situation for candidates who take part.On Tuesday’s broadcast of MS NOW’s “The Moment With Katy Tur,” Wilson branded the event a “sort of Fyre Festival RNC convention,” a nod to Billy McFarland’s luxury-billed music festival that turned out to be anything but.And it’s just “another trap for a lot of these candidates who feel obligated to be there so that Trump will like them or support them or be with them,” he said.Watch the segment here:Those Republican candidates are also, however, “facing those hard realities on the ground where even in Texas people are angry at Trump about affordability” and the price of gas and groceries, Wilson said.“All the things that have put Trump in this political climate that he’s in right now are not going to change by two days of the razzle dazzle, the wamma jamma that they’re going to try to do at this convention,” he added.The two-day convention, Wilson predicted, will be “all about” Trump, who is slated to speak on both Wednesday and Thursday.“And if the people are not reciting the same mantra he does, they’re going to get crossways with him,” he predicted. “And if they do go out there and try to run on what he says at this convention, people are going to laugh him off the stage, I think.”
