Nifty 50 began today’s session with a gap-down at 23,522 versus yesterday’s close of 23,635. The index fell further after opening and is now hovering around 23,480, down 0.6 per cent. The advance/decline ratio of Nifty 50 now stands at 13/37, showing a bearish bias. Adani Enterprises (up 3.6 per cent) and Max Healthcare Institute (up 3.5 per cent) are the top gainers.Infosys (down 3.6 per cent) and HDFC Life (down 3.3 per cent) are the top losers among the Nifty 50 stocks so far today. With respect to sectors, barring Nifty Metal (up 0.5 per cent) and Nifty Oil & Gas (up 0.1 per cent), all others are in the red. Nifty IT (down nearly 3 per cent) is the weakest index followed by Nifty Realty (down 1 per cent). The above factors indicate that the broader market is weak today and so, Nifty 50 and its futures contracts are likely to stay bearish through today’s session. Nifty 50 futuresNifty (Sep) futures began today’s session lower at 23,674 against Tuesday’s close of 23,750. It slipped further after opening and is now trading at 23,580, down nearly 0.7 per cent. The chart shows that the downtrend so far this week has been strong. Also, the indications, as mentioned above, have been supportive for the bears. Hence, we anticipate more fall in Nifty futures from the current market price. That said, from the current level, we might see a minor uptick to the 23,630-23,650 price region before Nifty futures eventually falls to 23,500. A breach of this can drag it deeper to 23,300.However, in case the contract recovers from the current level and surpasses 23,680, it can extend the rise to 23,750-23,800. But given the considerable selling pressure, a recovery is less likely. Hence, traders can consider selling.Trading strategyShort Nifty futures (Sep) if it inches up to 23,630.
