Water levels across several districts in Bihar have started receding or stabilising, bringing relief to millions of affected people. However, multiple rivers remain above the danger mark in other areas and the flood threat persists, according to Disaster Management Department officials.As per latest figures, approximately 34.31 lakh people have been affected by floods across 480 gram panchayats in 79 blocks of 13 districts.On Tuesday, the discharge at Kosi Barrage and the Son river’s discharge at the Indrapuri Barrage was recorded at 1,69,985 cusecs and 1,04,758 cusecs respectively — both registering a declining trend. The water level of the Gandak river at Valmiki Barrage remains stable, while that of Ganga at Sultanganj has stopped rising after slightly surpassing its 2021 record high. However, the Gandak, Kosi, Burhi Gandak, Ganga, Punpun and Ghaghara are flowing above the danger mark at multiple locations.“A total of 432 community kitchens are currently being operated in various districts for flood-affected people, and more than 10 lakh people have so far been provided meals twice a day,” a DMD official said, adding that accommodation, food and medical facilities have been arranged for 12,294 flood victims at 14 relief camps. A total of 1,832 boats are being operated to facilitate the evacuation of residents. Besides, 27 State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams and 10 National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams have been deployed across various districts.Former Chief Minister Nitish Kumar visited the flood-affected villages in Patna district and instructed Deputy Chief Minister and Water Resources Minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary to ensure proper arrangements be made to monitor relief and rescue operations.
