Here are some numbers:In the first 12 races of the season, among cars that started P19 and finished the race, the average positions gained were 3.83. Antonelli gained 18. Eighteen!It’s not just “a Monza thing,” either. In the last 19 races at Monza, the average positions gained by P19 was 5.89. Even that’s lifted by a couple of outliers: top-tier drivers in highly competitive cars who were relegated to the back of the grid strictly due to strategic power-unit penalties.Because Monza is a high-speed track where overtaking is relatively straightforward, top teams frequently use the Italian Grand Prix as a tactical weekend to install fresh engines and absorb the resulting grid drops.
