Telangana Director General of Police (DGP) C.V. Anand has directed police officers across the State to put in place a comprehensive security arrangements for the upcoming Ganesh Chaturthi festival, with special emphasis on electrical safety, traffic management, crowd control and security along immersion routes.He said effective coordination among the police, other government departments, Ganesh Utsav organisers and other stakeholders would be crucial to ensuring that the festivities from September 14 to 25, including the immersion, are conducted peacefully.Addressing senior police officers and Station House Officers (SHOs) through a video conference, Mr. Anand directed the police to remain vigilant from the setting up of pandals until the completion of the immersion process.The DGP said a dedicated online portal had been introduced to collect and monitor details of Ganesh pandals across the State. Information such as the location of pandals, names of organisers and committee members, and details of vehicles to be used for idol immersion should be uploaded on the platform.The SHOs have been provided dedicated logins to monitor arrangements and activities related to the pandals. Mr. Anand also directed officers to use geo-tagging to map pandals and monitor security arrangements. Details of geo-tagging and security checks should also be uploaded on the TG-COP platform.The DGP directed police to pay special attention to electrical safety around pandals to prevent accidents. Traffic management should also be planned in advance, particularly at locations expected to witness large gatherings. Organisers should be encouraged to deploy adequate volunteers, install CCTV cameras and make arrangements for orderly queues and crowd management, he said.Mr. Anand called for detailed advance planning for the immersion scheduled for September 25. Police officials were instructed to identify and map immersion routes, roads and bridges and assess the load-bearing capacity of bridges along the routes.The DGP stressed the need for close coordination between police stations, Commissioners of Police, DCPs and district SPs. He directed officers to hold meetings with Ganesh Utsav committees and peace committees and address concerns relating to the festivities in advance.Mr. Anand further directed officers to maintain a close watch on social media and respond promptly to any content or incidents that could potentially affect public order.
