The Tiruppur district administration began enforcing Code of Conduct immediately after the Election Commission of India (ECI) announced, on Monday afternoon, the byelection schedule for 101-Dharapuram (SC) Assembly Constituency.The district Collector and District Election Officer Manish Narnaware said nine flying squads, nine static surveillance teams, and two video surveillance teams have been constituted for round-the-clock monitoring to enforce ECI guidelines.Restrictions have been imposed on display of advertisements, pasting of posters, and wall-writings in public and private places in urban area.In rural parts, election advertisements are permitted on private buildings with permission of the property owners, provided they do not cause inconvenience to the public.Political parties have to obtain prior permission from the Returning Officer of the 101-Dharapuram (SC) Assembly Constituency to conduct public meetings and use campaign vehicles, the District Collector said, and instructed all licensed firearm holders residing within the limits of the Dharapuram (SC) Assembly Constituency to immediately deposit their firearms at the jurisdictional police station.Election-related complaints forwarded through ECI’s cVIGIL App will be acted upon promptly. Complaints will be addressed through the Control Rooms established in the offices of the Returning Officer and Assistant Returning Officers, he said.On Tuesday, the Collector chaired a consultation meeting with representatives of recognised political parties and apprised them about ECI guidelines on removal of photographs of political leaders displayed in government offices and the removal of government advertisements and political party publicity materials placed in public and private locations.The particulars of postal voting and facilitation for voting for persons above 85 years of age and those with disabilities, as stipulated under the Representation of the People Act, 1951, were also discussed.
