Conor Benn and Ryan Garcia will meet in a WBC welterweight showdown this weekend, and boxing legend Mike Tyson was eager to offer his verdict on the clash16:12, 08 Sep 2026Mike Tyson has praised the work of Conor Benn, but is backing Ryan Garcia to win their grudge match on Saturday night.‌The pair will go head-to-head in Las Vegas in a 147lb showdown - with Garcia set to put his WBC welterweight title on the line. Garcia won the coveted green belt earlier this year after dominating Mario Barrios over 12 rounds in their Sin City dust-up.‌For Benn, he will be itching to emulate the success of his father Nigel - who famously won a WBC belt 34 years ago when he knocked out Mauro Galvano. Benn Sr would famously go on to defend the title nine times before dropping it to Thulani Malinga back in 1996.‌With many fans on the fence as to who will win Saturday night's mouthwatering bout, boxing icon Tyson believes there's a clear winner. When asked who will win, he told FightHype TV: “Ryan," before adding: “We’ll see [if Garcia can knock him out]. Conor’s getting better.”FOLLOW OUR FIGHTING FB PAGE! I’ve not been shy about that. I’ve said five rounds and below. That means I’m coming with mean intentions and I’m not here to dance my way to a decision, but I’m also not here to be stupid, at the end of the day. But would it be amazing? Yes.”‌This weekend's fight marks Benn's first contest at welterweight in over four years. On that night, he needed just two rounds to stop Chris van Heerden in Manchester. He has since moved up as high as middleweight - for his two historic meetings with Chris Eubank Jr.While his last fight - a points win over Regis Prograis back in April - was contested at 150lb, Benn is having to cut down an extra three pounds, with many fearing for his health after recent pictures emerged of the British brawler looking rather lean.Last month, the 'Destroyer' revealed that he will not be continuing at 147lb after his fight with Garcia after expressing his desire to move back up in weight. “Yeah, it’s hard. It’s brutal," he told Ring Magazine when discussing weight cut ahead of his return. "This is my last fight at 147. When I win the world title, I’ll move on.Article continues below"But for me, I haven’t made 147 for four years. So, it’s challenging. It’s really hard. You think I went up to 183 [fight night weight] for the Eubank fights, you know, so it’s hard, but we’re getting it done.”That said, he's solely focused on Garcia and is clearly leaving no stone unturned, saying: "I don’t care what he’s doing. Like it makes no difference. It doesn’t concern me at all. All I know is I’m working extremely hard to come out victorious. No doubt I’ll be looking for the stoppage myself. I think I’ll stop him. Yeah, I do.”
