Space-tech start-up GalaxEye is targeting a 30-satellite OptoSAR constellation by 2030 and plans to manufacture as many as 20 satellites a year as it moves to scale its commercial satellite-imaging business, founder and CEO Suyash Singh said, on the sidelines of the ninth edition of Bengaluru Space Expo. The company has raised a $10 million bridge round and is likely to return to the market for fresh capital in the coming months. The current capital is being used to develop its next satellites, Singh said.“We are very focused currently in terms of building an OptoSAR constellation in the next few years. We want 30 satellites of OptoSAR by 2030,” Singh said.Satellite’s capacityGalaxEye’s first satellite, Mission Drishti, has helped convert discussions with potential customers into commercial contract conversations. While the company did not disclose its order book, Suyash said the satellite’s capacity was effectively sold out until next year. The company also has nearly 25 channel partners globally that sell to government and defence customers. The start-up currently has around 150 employees and plans to expand its team to about 350 over the next two to three years. It also plans to manufacture 20 satellites annually in the 300-kg class.“We want to basically manufacture 20 satellites every year of 300 kg class, and launch it to space,” Singh said.GalaxEye is also evaluating acquisitions selectively as it builds capabilities for the constellation. Its recent acquisition of StarOps was aimed at avoiding several years of in-house development of satellite-bus technology, Singh said. The company will primarily focus on selling satellite imagery and data, while working with partners to build applications across different verticals. It plans to develop intelligence products in only one or two areas initially, given the R&D requirements involved.Published on September 8, 2026
