The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) has ruled out negligence after damage was noticed to an idol of Lord Krishna atop the main gopuram of the Venkateswara temple, saying its staff had detected the damage in advance and initiated repairs. The TTD said the massive gopuram housed hundreds of idols, some of which might require repairs after prolonged exposure to sun, air and rain. As part of the annual maintenance taken up ahead of the nine-day Brahmotsavams, the condition of the idols was inspected and those requiring attention were either repaired or replaced, it said.During the ongoing painting and repair works on the gopuram, TTD personnel noticed that an idol of Lord Krishna required repairs and promptly alerted the officials concerned. The rectification work was subsequently taken up, the temple administration said. The TTD cautioned against “malicious” social media posts on the incident without verification, saying such misinformation could create apprehension among devotees about the sanctity of the temple.
