Germany will provide Ukraine with additional missiles of various types as part of efforts to strengthen the country’s air defenses ahead of winter.
German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius announced this at the start of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group meeting, held in the Ramstein format on September 8, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.
“In addition to PAC-2 interceptor missiles, Germany will further step up its continuous provision of AIM-9 air-to-air missiles from Bundeswehr stocks to provide greater quantities to Ukraine. These missiles are being delivered as we speak and will strengthen Ukraine’s air defenses before winter comes,” Pistorius said.
He recalled that he had decided at the NATO summit to urgently provide Ukraine with PAC-2 interceptor missiles from Bundeswehr stocks and had called on all members of the Contact Group to review their own stockpiles and make similar deliveries.
“From NATO’s perspective, further substantial deliveries of Patriot interceptor missiles by allies are acceptable. Mark and General Grinkevich were clear about that during our last meetings and will reiterate it today,” the German Minister said.
