Shivamogga district administration, on Tuesday, conducted a district-level Praja Seva Abhiyana meeting at Shikaripur. In the presence of School Education and Literacy Minister and Shivamogga district in-charge Madhu Bangarappa, the officers received applications from the public and assured them of resolving them at the earliest.Mr. Bangarappa, speaking after inaugurating meeting said that it was distressing that people were forced to move from office to office, and from rural areas to the State capital, Bengaluru, to get their problems resolved, resulting in a loss of money and time for them. The Praja Seva system had been introduced to prevent this, he said.Describing the Praja Seva Abhiyana as a programme born out of Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar’s special interest, Mr. Bangarappa said Ministers, MLAs, and district- and taluk-level officers would respond promptly to public grievances under the initiative. A separate mechanism had been put in place to free people from the trouble of moving between offices with their applications, with the district administration functioning as a bridge between the public and the government. He added that officers must render service in a manner that enhanced respect for the government, and ensure that people’s tax money was put to proper use.He said the Praja Seva Abhiyana would be held in every taluk of the district on the first and third Saturday of every month to resolve people’s personal and public problems. He directed officers not to limit themselves to merely receiving applications, but to pay special attention to resolving people’s problems on the spot, in a humane, lawful, and non-partisan manner.Shivamogga MP B.Y. Raghavendra, who was present at the programme, said signs of drought were visible in the district and appealed to elected representatives and officers to work vigilantly to protect people and livestock and prevent water and power shortages. He said rural lakes were being filled through lift irrigation schemes, and, given the deficient rainfall, asked officers to focus on filling at least 50% of the lakes.Mr. Raghavendra also said government schemes were not being completed on time owing to a lack of coordination among department officials, and appealed to officers to resolve issues internally so that government schemes and facilities reached eligible beneficiaries.Krishika Samaja State president Mahadevappa, Taluk Guarantee Committee president Nagaraj Gowda, Deputy Commissioner Prabhulinga Kavalikatti, Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer N.
