:Following the directions of Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar following his visit to the APMC Market in Yeshwanthpur, Bengaluru City Police and Labour Department officials rescued 19 child labourers, including children from Bihar, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan, who were allegedly employed at shops in the market.The Chief Minister visited the APMC Market within the jurisdiction of RMC Yard Police Station on Tuesday morning and interacted with farmers, labourers and traders to hear their grievances. During the visit, members of the public reportedly informed him that children were being employed at some shops.Following his directions, five special teams comprising ACPs, police inspectors of the North Division, and Labour Inspectors were formed under the supervision of the Deputy Commissioner of Police, North Division.The teams conducted an operation in the APMC Market and rescued 19 children. Of them, 13 were from Bihar — 12 boys and one girl — while two were from West Bengal, two from Uttar Pradesh, and one boy each from Rajasthan and Karnataka.Police have registered four cases at RMC Yard Police Station against shop owners who allegedly employed children under provisions of the Child Labour (Prohibition) Act and the Juvenile Justice Act. Further investigation is underway.In addition, five cases have been registered against shop owners under the Child and Adolescent Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act, 1986.Separately, 10 children found working on the roadside were also rescued and produced before the Child Welfare Committee, Bengaluru, for further necessary action.
