Karnataka aims to capture 50 per cent of India’s space market, estimated at around $22 billion by 2034, under its Karnataka Space Technology Policy 2025-30, said Dr Manjula N, Secretary, Department of Electronics, IT, Biotechnology and Science & Technology.Speaking at the Bengaluru Space Expo 2026, she said Karnataka currently contributes 65 per cent of India’s aerospace exports and 67 per cent of defence aircraft and helicopter manufacturing. She highlighted opportunities for the space sector in agriculture, climate monitoring, disaster management, telecommunications and geospatial intelligence.Manjula said Karnataka’s next phase of growth in the sector would focus increasingly on space manufacturing and serving global markets.Focus SectorSpace manufacturing has been identified as a focus sector under the Aerospace & Defence Policy 2026-31, with eligible projects able to access investment incentives of 25-30 per cent.She highlighted the breadth of Karnataka’s existing space ecosystem, with companies working across propulsion systems, satellite subsystems, avionics, electronics, precision engineering, space situational awareness, optical communications, orbital intelligence, in-orbit services and satellite-data applications.Dedicated to SpaceThe State is also exploring plans for a dedicated Karnataka Space Park and Space Manufacturing Cluster near Bengaluru.The proposed ecosystem would support space technology manufacturing, assembly, integration, testing, research and innovation, while bringing together startups, MSMEs, industry leaders, research institutions and technology providers.“Bengaluru already powers India’s space innovation. Karnataka’s next mission is to power the world’s space manufacturing across upstream hardware, midstream orbital infrastructure, and downstream applications that create value for humanity,” she said.Published on September 8, 2026
