ST. LOUIS — Sometimes when I solicit mailbag questions or predictions from subscribers, there’s a lag between when I receive them and when I finally address them.This week was one of those cases.On Aug. 31, I asked subscribers to give me their bold predictions for the 2026-27 season, and I received more than a hundred predictions and comments. They included this one from subscriber Bob I.: “Robert Thomas becomes the Blues captain and Philip Broberg the new alternate captain.”While it wasn’t super bold, it was a prediction, and it became reality.Thomas was announced Thursday as the 25th captain in franchise history, and Broberg was named one of four alternate captains, along with Colton Parayko, Jake Neighbours and Dylan Holloway.

We’ll see how that fares, along with the rest of them, with the season fast approaching.In the meantime, let’s take a look at what the rest of our subscribers came up with, and, like Bob I., hopefully a few others can nail theirs.I’ve divided them into categories. Enjoy!Note: Some predictions have been edited lightly for length and clarity.The startThe Blues win their first two games of the season against Dallas and Colorado and finish above .500 in October — Marc S.Jim Montgomery likes where your head’s at! If it happens, it would certainly put an end to the slow-start narrative.The Blues start the season 5-10, finally accept the inevitable rebuild, and draft in the top five next summer. — Ben W.Monty does not like where your head’s at! And even if they go 1-14, there won’t be a rebuild. With Thomas, Broberg, Joel Hofer and so many good young pieces, there’s no reason to tear anything down.Neighbours has four fights in the first 10 games. — Robert L.I don’t know about four tilts in 10 games — maybe the season. But he’s stoked about wearing an “A,” and while he has always been a passionate player, his energy is going to be through the roof this season.The stat projectionsThe Blues have three 30-goal scorers this year: Thomas, Holloway and Jimmy Snuggerud. — Kale D.This would be the best line in the NHL if all three get to 30. They’re all capable, but I think Thomas will be an assist machine this season, setting up the other two.Snuggerud will have a 40-goal season. — Brett W.If general manager Alexander Steen is reading this and knows anything about the history of our subscribers with their bold predictions, he might want to get Snuggerud signed to an extension ASAP.Holloway stays healthy all season and scores 40-plus goals. — Kristenella-82 M.Even if he plays all 84 games (there are two more this season), I don’t know whether he’s a 40-goal guy. He does so many things well; I just don’t know whether he’ll be that type of scorer.Thomas leads the team with 92 points; Snuggerud leads the team with 36 goals. — Jacob B.I’ll say yes. Thomas has a chance to hit 100 points for the first time in his career, so 92 gives us a little wiggle room. And 36 might be a little optimistic for Snuggerud, but it’s not outrageous.Thomas will overtake Vladimir Tarasenko for fifth all-time in Blues points. — Maxwell H.Tarasenko is fifth with 553 points, and Thomas is tied for 10th with 460, so Thomas needs 94 to pass him this season. Since I said he’ll get 92 points, what’s two more?Blues name Robert Thomas as 25th captain in team historyJeremy RutherfordConnor McMichael is the Blues’ second-leading scorer, followed by Mason McTavish. — Steven C.This would certainly mean that the offseason was a win.McMichael, Dalibor Dvorsky and Pavel Buchnevich become the second line, and Dvorsky scores 25 goals and puts up 55 points. — Destroyer 5Where did McTavish go? Third line? It’s great if Dvorsky puts up those numbers and develops into that player, but this doesn’t seem to bode well for McTavish.
