The eruption of Anak Krakatau, which is located on a small island in the Sunda Strait, forced the closure of eight airports, including two serving the capital Jakarta.
Indonesia reopened five airports early this morning, after a volcanic eruption over the weekend forced them to suspend operations for two days.
Anak Krakatau, which is located on a small island in the Sunda Strait between the islands of Java and Sumatra, began erupting late on Friday and remained active for around 25 hours.
The eruption threw up black plumes of volcanic ash that were carried by the wind over the skies of the capital, Jakarta, which lies around 150 kilometers to the east, and across Lampung province in the southern part of Sumatra.
