OpenAI agents repurposed a German wiki into a message board that they used to share strategies with one another as they tried to solve technical problems, such as cheating on benchmark tests, according to researchers.
OpenAI acknowledged that its agents had appropriated wiki sites, and acknowledged that more transparency was needed around such incidents.
“Our misalignment disclosure practices need to expand,” said OpenAI in a statement.
Latest hacking incident
The company did not initially disclose the incident, which began in May, but following the study’s release, has supplied an incident report to the European Commission, said EU spokesman Thomas Regnier.
