The institutions will collaborate on a postgraduate programme designed to develop a sturdy talent pipeline for the semiconductor industry.
Munster Technological University (MTU) in partnership with the Tyndall National Institute in Cork, has developed a new postgraduate programme with the aim of addressing the global shortage of technicians and engineers required to work in specialised semiconductor cleanroom facilities known as nanofabs.
The programme is specifically geared towards those working in technical roles in semiconductor cleanrooms – which are controlled environments specifically engineered to protect highly sensitive semiconductor wafers – who want to upskill and earn a postgraduate qualification.
It is also for recent STEM undergraduates looking to begin their career in specialisation in cleanroom-based technology and fabrication processes.
The educational elements will be delivered by academic and technical staff with previous semiconductor cleanroom experience and will explore a range of topics, including the core discipline areas of semiconductor cleanroom processing, nanometrology and cleanroom utilities and maintenance.
