West Australian Premier Roger Cook says the Albanese government is on “a hiding to nothing” in caving to a populist, right-wing immigration debate engulfing the nation and warned of the long-term economic impact of turning away international workers.

Cook on Tuesday said WA was uniquely exposed to any reduction in the number of skilled migrants entering the country and that he was personally lobbying Canberra to ensure a steady flow of international workers for his state.
