Beijing-based smartphone maker Xiaomi has launched a wide-format foldable smartphone called the 18 Fold, designed to compete with a similar iPhone model expected from Apple later this week, as companies target the increasingly popular form factor to offset a broader slump in the sector.
Samsung recently introduced a similar format with its Z Fold 8, and Apple is expected to launch an iPhone with the passport-shaped format at an event scheduled for Wednesday at its California headquarters.
The Xiaomi 18 Fold has a 5.38-inch outer display and a 7.58-inch inner display, and uses a redesigned hinge designed to better protect the inner display.
