Withdrawing a banking license is an extraordinary rarity in Switzerland, at least when it happens outside bankruptcy proceedings.
That is one reason the case of MBaer Merchant Bank attracts so much interest. Finma revoked the license on February 6, 2026.
The bank appealed to the Federal Administrative Court in St. Gallen, which granted the appeal suspensive effect in an interim ruling. For the time being, MBaer was able to keep operating.
