The Sokoto State governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress Hon. Manir Muhammad Dan’iya has queried the state government over the persistent shortage of potable water in Sokoto metropolis and other parts of the state.
Dan’iya, in a statement issued by his Media Aide, Aminu Abdullahi, expressed concern that residents were still being forced to spend scarce household resources buying water for drinking, cooking and cleaning other domestic needs, more than three years into the administration of Governor Ahmed Aliyu.
He said the situation was unacceptable, particularly because the government had repeatedly announced major investments and interventions aimed at resolving the water crisis.
According to him, the state’s 2026 Citizens Budget provides N25 billion for the rehabilitation of the Sokoto Township Water Works and another N5 billion for the purchase and installation of solar-powered energy for State Water Board pumping stations.
