Stakeholders warn of rising costs in packaging industry

High production costs and a shortage of skilled manpower are threatening the growth and competitiveness of Nigeria’s packaging industry, stakeholders in the sector have warned.

The stakeholders gave the warning at a World Packaging Day event in Ikeja on Sunday, held alongside a seven-day Executive Masterclass on sustainable packaging.

The industry players identified the high cost of machinery and raw materials, inadequate technical capacity, weak research and development, inconsistent government policies and poor adoption of global standards as major challenges facing the packaging sector.
