The Falconets suffered a disappointing start to their FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup campaign after losing 2-0 to defending champions Spain in their opening Group F match in Poland on Monday, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

Nigeria struggled to find their rhythm against a composed Spanish side that controlled much of the encounter and made their dominance count at the ArcelorMittal Park in Sosnowiec.

Spain took the lead in the 13th minute through Marisa Garcia, putting the Falconets on the back foot in their opening fixture against one of the tournament favourites.

Moses Aduku’s side attempted to respond and remained in contention after conceding, but they were unable to find a way through Spain’s well-organised defence before the interval.
