Israel’s National Security Minister, Itamar Ben-Gvir, has called on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to “recognize Argentina’s sovereignty over the Malvinas Islands” and “impose sanctions on UK as long as the occupation continues.”

He posted the message on his official X account on Monday.

If Netanyahu’s government were to heed Ben-Gvir’s request, Israel would change its diplomatic position and move to take a stand and explicitly support Argentina’s claim to sovereignty over the Malvinas Islands. The statement could be used to strengthen Argentina’s diplomatic strategy at the United Nations and other multilateral organizations.

“It’s time for the State of Israel to publicly recognize that the Malvinas Islands are Argentine territory under occupation, which the British are violently stealing from the Argentine people,” the Israeli official said on his X account.
