Consultations in Kyiv laid the groundwork for resuming trilateral talks between Ukraine, the United States and Russia. At the same time, the U.S. side said Moscow was ready to return to the negotiating process after the September 20 State Duma elections.
Sources at the Élysée Palace said this to an Ukrinform correspondent while summarizing the results of a meeting between representatives of France, the United Kingdom and Germany and their Ukrainian and U.S. counterparts.
“The main task has been accomplished today – the groundwork for this process has been laid. The Kremlin has not ruled out the possibility of new trilateral talks. That is a positive development, but now all of this needs to be consolidated,” the Élysée sources said.
They elaborated that the U.S. side had reported “Russia’s renewed readiness to negotiate after the State Duma elections.”
As reported, representatives of France, the United Kingdom and Germany visited Kyiv in the E3 format at the invitation of the U.S. and Ukrainian sides.
