Argentine race driver Franco Colapinto said he was “disappointed” with himself and determined to “learn” from his experience after a mistake nearly cost him the race at the Italian Formula 1 Grand Prix in Monza.
The 23-year-old, who started from the 7th grid position — the highest of his F1 career — looked set for a strong performance.
He climbed as high as third thanks to a strong launch at the start. However, a mistake at the first Lesmo corner, Turn 6 at the Monza circuit, saw the Argentine run wide, lose control and skid into the gravel.
While he avoided hitting the barriers, the detour severely damaged his car’s floor and dropped him to the 16th place.
Colapinto fought back to finish ninth, enough to add two points to his championship tally and secure his seventh points finish of the season. However, the Argentine driver looked distraught after the race.
