FIFA has confirmed that Gianni Infantino will stand for re-election as president in March 2027, despite the backlash that forced him to abandon his controversial plan to bring private investment into the World Cup and other major competitions.
A FIFA spokesperson said on Sunday that nothing had changed regarding Infantino’s decision to seek another term, confirming that the 56-year-old Swiss will contest the election for a fourth and final term.

“The FIFA President announced in April that he will stand for re-election in 2027. Of course, nothing has changed. Infantino will be standing for re-election,” the spokesperson said.
If re-elected, Infantino will remain at the helm of world football until 2031, extending his presidency, which began in 2016 and was renewed in 2023.
