The Visakhapatnam Port Authority (VPA) observed the International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies on Monday with a series of environmental initiatives aimed at combating air pollution in the port city.An awareness rally along Beach Road was organised under the Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board’s Swachh Vayu Diwas programme.The rally was jointly inaugurated by APPCB Chairman P. Krishnaiah, GVMC Commissioner Ketan Garg, VPA Chairperson J.S. Bindra, and Deputy Chairperson Roshni Aparanji Korati. As part of its sustainability drive, the VPA planted 3,000 saplings within the port premises. In a significant boost to urban environmental infrastructure, the port also inaugurated three Continuous Ambient Air Quality Monitoring Stations (CAAQMS) at Malkapuram, Akkayyapalem, and Pandurangapuram. Valued at ₹6.54 crore including a 10-year operation and maintenance contract, these stations will provide real-time data to help authorities swiftly deploy pollution control measures.
