European Commissioner for Economy Valdis Dombrovskis held his first conversation with Ukrainian Prime Minister Sergii Koretskyi today, during which they discussed a number of financing-related issues.
European Commission spokesman Balázs Ujvári said this at a briefing in Brussels, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.
“This time, three important issues were discussed. They discussed Ukraine’s financial needs for 2026–2027. Secondly, they looked at the implementation of reforms to unlock funding under the $90 billion loan program. And thirdly, they discussed preparations for Ukraine’s financial strategy for 2027,” the spokesman said.
According to him, both sides agree on the importance of other international partners “making commitments and offering assistance either in the budgetary sphere or in the area of defense, in addition to the EU’s commitments.” As an example, Ujvári cited Norway’s commitment to provide Ukraine with $9 billion for 2027. “This is the path we expect other partners to follow as well,” he said.
The spokesman added that Dombrovskis plans to meet with IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva, as the Fund’s delegation completed its work in Kyiv last week. “This is important because the EU’s macro-financial assistance program is closely linked to the IMF program,” Ujvári said.
