Google has begun rolling out new voice-powered artificial intelligence features across Gmail, Google Docs and Google Keep, which allow users to search for information, create documents and organise notes using natural speech.
The features, called Gmail Live, Docs Live and Keep Live, are powered by Google’s Gemini AI and are designed to allow users to interact with the applications conversationally rather than relying solely on typing.
Google announced the features, saying they would enable users to draft documents, locate important information from their inbox, and capture fleeting thoughts quickly.
With Gmail Live, users can ask questions about information contained in their inboxes using natural language. The AI can search through emails and provide answers, which potentially reduces the need to manually search through multiple messages.
Docs Live takes a different approach, which allows users to speak through ideas and have Gemini turn the conversation into a structured document. With the necessary permissions, the feature can draw information from Gmail, Google Drive, Google Chat and the web when preparing a draft.
