Pete Golding’s left-behind Ole Miss Rebels had a lot more trouble Sunday with pretty good ACC member Louisville — coming from behind in the second half, blowing a two-touchdown lead and finally winning 41-38 on a Lucas Carneiro 48-yard field goal at the horn.Cue concerns that No. 11 LSU at No. 9 Ole Miss on Sept. 19 won’t be the classic we’ve been anticipating or give a satisfying answer to the biggest question facing college football today: Can someone please beat Kiffin and wipe that smarmy look off his face as quickly as possible, and then can several others also beat him?Dabo Swinney, Clemson are the biggest losers from Week 1Manny NavarroLSU’s hopeful demise and Michigan football’s latest asterisk are the two things the college football world — outside of Baton Rouge and Ann Arbor — can agree on in the wake of an overachieving Week 1. And if you watched LSU closely and trust that Clemson’s Dabo Swinney still has some players and assistant coaches who belong in their positions, you have to admit Kiffin had a heck of a first offseason with the Tigers.They might be a contender. The smarm may only grow from here. And if we can overreact a bit to Sunday’s slew of costly Ole Miss busts from the side of the ball on which Golding specializes, we can imagine a mighty satisfying hatecoming for Kiffin in a couple of weeks.The only sight worse for Golding than watching his defensive backs try to cover was watching them try to tackle. They were so bad at the former, they had plenty of downfield opportunities to botch the latter.“A lot of mistakes,” Golding said. “A lot of missed tackles. A lot of communication errors that led to big plays.”Enough reason to wonder if the Rebels were already thinking about the game everyone is talking about, though Golding argued: “I can be naive, I guess, but I don’t think it had anything to do with this game.”
