NewsUK NewsSky divingA 35-year-old experienced skydiver said she nearly died after she was accidentally hit during a group jump - the daredevil said she wants to dive again despite the horror incident10:02, 07 Sep 2026Updated 10:03, 07 Sep 2026An experienced skydiver was kicked in the head by another daredevil before she passed out at 10,000ft in the air without a parachute.‌Holly Wiffen, 35, said she nearly died during a group jump last month after a freefall gone terribly wrong. The dental therapist had taken part in a group skydiving experience called "tracking" - where jumpers dive in a horizonal position to plummet faster. The 35-year-old said she and the group had gone out of the plane at 12,000ft but she was hit in the head by the leg of another skydiver who crashed into her.‌The terrifying mid-air accident happened above the Langar airfield, near Nottingham, on August 7.‌Holly, from Okehampton, Devon, had passed out before she was able to deploy her parachute and horror footage appeared to show the 35-year-old helplessly diving to the ground at 150mph.Another skydiver tried to reach Holly before she hit the ground but he was unsuccessful and had to set off his own parachute at 3,000ft above ground.‌The 35-year-old however crashed into a conifer tree instead of the ground after the horror unconscious plummet. Holly, speaking to The Sun, said she had no memory of the fall and remembered waking up on the ground below the tree.She said: "If I hadn't hit the tree I would have hit the ground and would have been soup. Most people don’t survive skydiving accidents like that."‌Holly recalled the incident and said at around 1,000ft she must have somehow pulled her ripcord, but said her secondary parachute had deployed on its own as she was too low to the ground and travelling at a rapid speed.This however reportedly made the decent more dangerous and it led to a "downplane" effect due to the two chutes, meaning Holly's speed picked up from 40mph to 50mph.While the tree cushioned the blow of the fall, Holly said she plummeted near buildings, power lines and a main road, saying she was "very lucky not to hit any of those".‌She said: "I was just tumbling but I felt like I was dreaming about skydiving and falling. I didn't come around until I was lying on the ground." Holly added that when she looked down at her legs one of them was "pointing in a different direction".The 35-year-old incredibly survived the horror fall but was left with fractured spine, broken left leg and bruising.
