Thriston Lawrence edged Paul Casey in a play-off to win the Omega European Masters on Sunday, quietly securing South Africa’s seventh DP World Tour (DPWT) victory of the season.
The victory marks the 29-year-old’s third title at Crans-Montana and his sixth career DPWT triumph, elevating him to sixth on the all-time list of South African winners on the tour. He trails only Branden Grace (10), Charl Schwartzel and Louis Oosthuizen (11 each), Retief Goosen (14), and Ernie Els (28). Gary Player is excluded from this official list, as the majority of his triumphs occurred before the European Tour’s official establishment in 1972.
Lawrence also becomes the sixth distinct South African champion on the DPWT this year, continuing a remarkable campaign for the country.
The season launched with a bang in December when Jayden Schaper went back-to-back at the Alfred Dunhill Championship and the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open. Shortly after, Casey Jarvis matched that feat with consecutive victories at the Magical Kenya Open and the Investec South African Open in late February.
