The Deputy Governor of Edo State, Dennis Idahosa, has described Edo Queens’ qualification for the CAF Women’s Champions League as a remarkable achievement that has further placed Edo State at the forefront of women’s football in Nigeria and West Africa.
Idahosa stated this in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Friday Aghedo, on Sunday in Benin.
Edo Queens secured qualification after defeating Ghanaian champions Ampem Darkoa 4-1 on penalties in a dramatic WAFU-B Women’s tournament final in Burkina Faso on Saturday.
While congratulating Edo Queens, the reigning Nigeria Women’s Football League champions, the Deputy Governor commended the players and technical crew for their resilience, discipline and determination in securing the qualification.
He also commended Governor Monday Okpebholo for his administration’s deliberate investment in sports development and for creating an enabling environment for Edo athletes and teams to excel at national and international competitions.
