Linda Cardellini won her first Emmy on Sunday night at the Creative Arts Emmys taking home the award for supporting actress in a limited or anthology series.
On stage, an emotional Cardellini said, “I had to write something just in case, but first I would just like to say thank you to my mom and my dad. ‘I love you’ to my whole family and my friends and to Steve and my beautiful daughter Lyra Rose.” She also thanked her “DTF family” including her co-stars Jason Bateman, David Harbour and Joy Sunday. She thanked showrunner Steve Conrad and said, “Thank you for your beautiful heart and your beautiful mind. Thank you for this part and giving me this chance.”
Cardellini beat a field that also included Sunday, Dakota Fanning for “All Her Fault,” Laurie Metcalf for “Monster: The Ed Gein Story,” Youn Yuh-jung for “Beef” and Constance Zimmer for “Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette. She took a moment to thank her fellow nominees ”calling them “incredible” and “inspiring.”
Cardellini plays Carol Love-Smernitch in HBO’s darkly comic murder mystery, which centers on a love triangle between three middle-aged suburbanites that leaves one of them dead. Her character is the wife of Floyd Smernitch (David Harbour), whose friendship with local weatherman Clark Forrest (Jason Bateman) takes a turn when Clark and Carol become romantically involved.
