Four of the 11 sectors were trading in the green. The steady performance defied a broad Wall Street sell-off on Friday (Saturday AEST), after strong US employment data fuelled expectations of an imminent Federal Reserve rate increase.Nucleus Wealth chief investment officer Damien Klassen said that the Australian sharemarket was buoyed by extraordinary US profits, driven by big tech investments, and global growth hopes.“It really hangs together on the artificial intelligence trade,” he said. “There are flow-on effects to the rest of the Australian economy, with significant capital expenditure going into data centres and related services like electricians.”“If we’ve got just enough oil that we don’t run into shortages, then the world economy can hang together without tipping over the edge. But, certainly, it’s a dangerous time.”1 / 4Fetching latest articles
