An Amazon Air cargo plane overshot the runway and burst into flames while landing at a major Florida airport on Sunday.

Five people were killed and another five injured during the incident, which occurred at Miami International Airport at around 2pm local time.

Thick black smoke and huge flames could be seen engulfing the Amazon plane as emergency services raced to the airport.

The crash brought operations at Miami International Airport to a standstill, however flights have since resumed.

Amazon said it is "working closely with local authorities and officials to understand exactly what happened".
