Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Sunday said those who were responsible for the residential building collapse in Satya Niketan area of South-West Delhi won't be spared and has issued instructions to register an FIR against the landlord.She also reported that 11 people were rescued and relief operations are underway to save the lives of those trapped and provide all possible assistance to the collapse site.“11 people have been rescued. I am going to the hospital. We need to understand the condition of all those who have been rescued. I can say this much: whoever is responsible for this, whether it is the building owner or an official, will not be spared,” she said.The multi storey building collapsed in the South-West Delhi’s Satya Niketan area on Sunday.The Chief Minister, upon visiting the AIIMS Trauma Centre, inquired with the attending doctors to understand the treatment of the students and others injured during the collapse.Gupta instructed the medical team to provide all necessary medical assistance for the treatment of the injured and the Delhi Government is in contact with their injured students, with necessary support being provided to them.The Chief Minister continued gathering information on the situation at the collapse site and the rescue operations from the local MP, Bansuri Swaraj, and the MLA, Anil Sharma and also visited the incident area.The Delhi CM, said the government’s immediate priority was to rescue people trapped under the debris and assess the condition of those already rescued.The Chief Minister’s office said the CM is engaged in constant communication with authorities from relevant departments, including the local District Magistrate, Delhi Police, and NDRF.Gupta has instructed the officials to provide all possible support to the affected individuals and their families."It is a very unfortunate incident. Ever since we received information about the building collapse, rescue and relief operations have been underway to save the lives of those trapped and provide all possible assistance,” said Gupta.The Chief Minister highlighted the building’s age and assured that those responsible would be investigated and the guilty would be punished."I can assure you that those responsible will be investigated, especially since the building was old. There will be no compromise, and the guilty will not be spared. Eleven people have been rescued so far. I am now going to the hospital," she said.Gupta said the preliminary cause of the collapse was due to a shift in a pillar during renovation and excavation work.“The building was old, and some construction and renovation work was underway. Some kind of excavation was being carried out in the basement, due to which a pillar shifted and the entire building collapsed,” Gupta said.The Delhi Chief Minister said the building was being used to provide paying guest accommodation and that children were inside when it collapsed and emphasised the priority to rescue them first“The building was being used as a PG (Paying Guest), and children were inside. All agencies are continuously working,” she said.“Our priority is to save the lives of these children first. The rescue operation will continue in the same manner. All officials are present here, and there will be no shortage of any kind. However, the guilty will not be spared,” Gupta added.AIIMS Delhi authorities said it received eight patients who sustained injuries, out of which three were brought dead whilst another was in critical condition."The JPN Apex Trauma Centre (AIIMS) received eight patients who sustained injuries in a building collapse at Satya Niketan. Out of the eight patients, three were brought dead, one is in critical condition, and three patients have been admitted and are being treated. One patient underwent surgery of limb. One patient had sustained minor injury and was discharged after observation," AIIMS Delhi officials reported.Meanwhile, Delhi Police on Sunday confirmed that four people were killed in the building collapse and raids have been initiated to capture the accused.National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and local authorities continued their rescue operations at the site and investigated if anyone else remained trapped under the debris.(With inputs from ANI and PTI)
