The victory made Antonelli the first Italian driver to win his home grand prix in 60 years. Antonelli overtook teammate George Russell in the closing stages to secure the win, with Russell finishing second and Red Bull's Max Verstappen taking third. Ferrari suffered a disappointing home race as Charles Leclerc crashed out early on, whilst Lewis Hamilton finished in sixth place. The result marked Antonelli's seventh win of the season, extending his lead over Russell in the drivers' standings to 66 points.
