Three bodies have been retrieved from the Godavari river near Badava village in West Godavari district on Sunday, a day after a family of four jumped into the river, prompting authorities to conduct search operations. The deceased have been identified as Namuburu Srinivas, 45, his 16-year-old son, and 12-year-old daughter, while Srinivas’s wife Padmini, 42, survived the suicide bid as she was rescued by the fishermen immediately after she, along with her family members, jumped into the river.Srinivas sold milk for a living, and his wife Padmini ran a pan shop from their residence in Tanuku, while their son and daughter were still studying.Yelamanchili Sub-Inspector M. Raj Kumar told The Hindu that the family had resorted to the extreme step due to “financial struggles”, as cited in a suicide note recovered from their residence. They had sold their house and gold jewellery to meet their financial needs and mortgaged a house site in Palakollu town, Mr. Kumar said. The Sub-Inspector said the dead bodies have been handed over to their family after a post-mortem was performed at Palakollu government hospital. Those struggling with suicidal tendencies can dial the West Godavari District Police at 9490401725.
