ALBAWABA - New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani said on Friday that Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) would be a “viable” candidate for higher office.Mamdani had previously signed a NYC-Democratic Socialists of America petition calling AOC “the most viable left contender for president in 2028,” as the congresswoman herself said that she hasn’t “ruled out the possibility”.It seems though, for the time being, AOC is focused on the highly polarizing upcoming midterm elections as she’s considered a prominent contender for the Democratic nomination.“I think that the congresswoman would be viable no matter what decision that she makes, and I think that she would make a good whatever it is that she wants to pursue,” Mamdani said at an afternoon press conference at the Brooklyn Museum.AOC has strongly supported Mamdani’s bid for NYC mayor, the congressmember has cemented herself as a national political heavyweight and boosted his profile alongside hers at rallies and parades throughout the year; it seems Mamdani is now reciprocating that support.Alongside a potential presidential run, AOC is being considered as a possible challenger to Sen. Chuck Schumer, who will be up for re-election in 2028.
