His 42-year-old brother is said to have followed him into the water but survived.‌"The circumstances of the drowning are surprising, since the victim jumped into the water from a tourist ferry that makes the Cambrils-Salou route and vice versa (from port to port) voluntarily," states Diari de Tarragona.The newspaper claimed that shortly before jumping out of the window, the brothers had "wanted to drink beer on board" the ferry but were refused by the captain.‌The crew alerted the emergency services at 6.41pm local time (5.41pm BST), reporting that the two men had jumped overboard. Maritime Rescue teams were then sent out to search for them.The brothers' parents stayed on board the ferry and were reportedly planning to meet them at a beach bar. According to reports, they said their sons were strong swimmers and believed they would be able to make it to the beach.The man's body was recovered, with Mossos d'Esquadra officers cordoning off the area. A forensic doctor attended the scene at 9.25pm local time (8.25pm BST) to oversee the removal of the body.Article continues belowThe Civil Guard in Tarragona is investigating the circumstances surrounding the death. The exact cause of death has not yet been confirmed, pending the results of a post-mortem examination.The man's parents provided statements about the incident at the port of Salou before being informed that their son had died.
