The National Vice Chairman, South-West of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, Pastor Adedayo Ekong, speaks with YUSUF OKETOLA on the need for opposition parties to form a united front to win the 2027 presidential election, as well as the preparedness of the party and other political matters

How strong is the NDC in the South-West currently?

I think it is important for us to get certain things right; NDC is strong because the economy right now is not friendly to people and we all are aware of what is going on in the country. It is not about South-South, South-East, North-East or North-West, it is about Nigerians and Nigeria as a country.

We are saying Nigeria deserves better than what they are getting right now. That is an established matter, and NDC cannot be separated from the affairs of the country because we are a political party. NDC is here to serve the people and the people are very anxious because they want a credible leader that can lead the people right and that is what NDC represents.

People are hungry all over the country. Their welfare, healthcare, education and so on and so forth are not properly taken care of. So, Nigerians deserve somebody who has the ability to provide credible alternatives. At this stage, credible alternatives are our principals, both Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso. They are people that have been tried and trusted of all the presidential candidates. A lot of Nigerians are yearning for immediate change and by the grace of God, come 2027, we will have that change.
